Details research concerning the connection between suicide & treatable depressive illness, & research which shows that most suicide victims contacted their doctors shortly before their death. The author concludes that, due to the facts on the relation of suicide to depression, most suicides should be considered preventable. He asserts that knowledge on suicide must be conveyed to those in primary care. (VM)
