This article explores the hypothesis that increased drug use is one of the reasons for the escalation in youth suicide. The author presents clinical case histories & research results on heightened drug use & suicidal behavior. She asserts that substance abuse prevention, along with more effective treatment & referrals for adolescents with alcohol & drug addictions, would aid in suicide prevention, intervention & better mental health among the young.
