Assessing Suicide Risk in Stroke Patients: Review of Two Cases

Case histories of 2 patients who developed mood disturbances after having strokes, & eventually committed suicide, are presented. Neither patient openly expressed suicidal thoughts, but indirect verbal cues & nonverbal behavior indicating potential suicide risk factors. Strategies for evaluation & management of suicidal behavior is also discussed, the need for early assessment is highlighted. (VM)
