This article provides detailed statistics on suicide in Canada from 1951 to 1986. It breaks down rates by sex, age, & province, as well as explaining trends among each group. The potential years of life lost, & the mortality ranking of suicide are provided. The authors conclude the suicide rate increased rapidly, but more recently the male rate has stabilized & the female rate decreased appreciably. (VM)
