In this study, rating scales were administered 6 times to a large cohort of gay men between 1984 and 1988. The Hopkins Symptom Chedklist (HSCL), the Centre for Epidemiologic Study Depression Scale (CESD-5), & an adapted Diagnostic Interview Schedule (DIS) were used. The authors found that HSCL and CESD-5 scores were stable, though AIDS-specific distress increased. Depression for 2 weeks or more was reported by 40%, & suicidal ideation by 20% of the men. (VM)
