Data from the Medical Examiner on 130 suicides, aged 10-20, was subjected to cluster analysis. The prevalence of the resulting 6 types of suicide was compared at 2 points in time (1978-mid 1981; & mid 1981-1984). Suicide involving family disorganization & reactions to stress show a significant increase over time. The lack of national preventive strategies, research studies on suicide in Canada which would explain changes in rates of youth suicides & types of suicide over time, is noted.
