Analysis of the Medical Examiner’s files for Alberta produced information on 378 cases of suicide in males, aged 20-34. Numerical clustering techniques identified 6 distinct subtypes of suicide. The resemblance of some of these subtypes of suicide to those identified in previous work using cluster analysis is discussed. It is suggested that the subtype of suicide involving social stress in unstable younger males may be the type chiefly involved in the continued rise in rates of male suicide.
