The author explains that risk factors of suicide are derived from demographis trends, & begins the chapter with a case study of a young black woman which goes against the trends. The author asserts that the case method brings reality into teaching, & recommends that students read the 5 detailed case studies he provides, & determine the risk for each case themselves. He concludes that better prediction of risk equals better intervention in individual cases. (VM)
