The authors of this article believe that the therapy of survivors of the suicidal death of a loved one should be viewed from a posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) framework. A diagnostic criteria for PTSD is presented. The authors conclude that, although there are individual differences, social environment is the most important factor in recovery; however, unfortunately, the stigma of suicide often hinders the social support system for the bereaved.
