A Cross-Cultural Look at the Suicide Rates of Children and Teenagers (IN: Suicide Prevention in Schools, ed. by A A Leenaars & S Wenckstern)
Lester D
This article compares the suicide rates of countries around the world among those aged 5-14, & 15-24. The aim is to discover if the rising youth suicide rate in the U.S.A. is common to all nations. The author finds there is no common ground: some countries have decreased rates, some increased for just one sex. The author also finds the usual correlates of suicide do not apply to youth suicide, & concludes that new theories are needed to understand youth suicide. (VM)
