This article describes the characteristics of cancer patients who were referred to a supportive care program. The program provides support for patients with severe pain, poor social & family resources, & psychological distress. It employs a nurse–coordinated model with collaboration between a nurse, physician, social worker, & others. The authors provide information on pain severity, opioid dosing requirements, suicidal ideation & requests for euthanasia. (VM)
