This letter is a response to an article by M.H.Teicher et al, which claimed that 3.5 percent of patients receiving fluoxetine treatment developed intense suicidal preoccupation. The author criticizes Teicher for making this claim solely on the basis of six patients with complicated histories, which included suicidal ideation and gestures. Teicher’s reply is also presented. He asserts the ideation was severe, and the literature supports his claim. (VM)
