This letter to the editor describes the case of a bipolar patient who developed mild brain damage from anoxia after attempting suicide by hanging. The authors discuss the effects & treatment for a patient who has attempted suicide by hanging. They focus on the relationship between anoxia & carbon dioxide. They conclude that both biological & psychological factors must be considered in the treatment of depressed patients who fail in their suicide attempts.
