From 1969-70, 50 465 Swedish men, aged 18 to 20, were conscripted for military service. All underwent psychological testing, & statistics are provided for the specific mental disorders the men displayed. Finds that those who had been diagnosed in in-patient care had a much higher risk for suicide than those screened through testing. However, although in-patient care was a strong predictor of suicide, only 44% of all 247 who committed suicide had ever been treated in in-patient psychiatric care.
