Presents the case of a 32 year old man with schizophrenia who was admitted to the hospital after trying to hang himself because of disturbing thoughts of exposing himself to children. Exhibitionism may have pathophysiologic mechanisms similar to those of obsessive-compulsive disorder in that intrusive, distressing thoughts are present, & relief occurs by compulsive behavior. The subject responded to fluoxetine, which is effective in treating obsessive-compulsive disorder.
