Briefly outlines the stages of bereavement, according to numerous theorists. The author notes the statistical correlation between mental illness & the early loss of a parent or parents, & the relation between bereavement over a spouse & the increased chance of death for the remaining spouse. The author asserts our current methods of suppressing mourning & grief are dysfunctional, & a visit by a health care worker should follow a death in the family. (VM)
