Accidents, homicide & suicide are the three leading causes of death for adolescents in the U.S. This article provides a statistical breakdown of the race & sex of victims of violent deaths, and discusses whether homicides & accidents can sometimes reflect self-destructive tendencies. The author presents numerous studies on how to predict violent deaths, as well as theories of prevention & intervention for adolescents, for the general population, & for high risk groups. (55 refs.)
