Suicide in Adolescence and Young Adulthood (IN: Suicide Across the Life – Premature Exits, ed. by J M Stillion, E E McDowell & J H May)
Stillion J M~~McDowell E E~~May J H
Discusses adolescents, aged 15-24, & young adults, aged 25-34. The suicide rate for young adults is higher than for adolescents. However, although the suicide rate for adolescents is relatively low, it has increased more than any other age group in the last 25 years. Suicidal youths often lack adequate role models, abuse drugs & alcohol more than any other age groups, & are socially isolated. For young adults, the stressors of marriage, parenting, career, & AIDS add to suicidal tendencies.
