Training Physicians in the Clinical Evaluation of the Suicidal Patient

Many aspects of the evaluation of suicidal patients are outlined including: the consultation environment, the basis for hospital admission, the distinction between violent and non-violent attempters, an assessment of suicide risk, a plan for case disposition, and the handling of comprehensive diagnostic assessment. As well, a section on practical case management, including legal issues is presented. (40 refs.) (VM)
