The Special Initiatives Team of the Mental Health Programs Branch, Indian Health Services, was formed to provide crisis & prevention consultation to American Indian & Alaska Native communities in response to violent behaviours, including suicide. The team incorporates cultural & historical factors in assisting communities to develop programs to combat violent behaviours & encourages community-based, community-controlled efforts. (10 refs.)
