Discusses diagnostic & therapeutic issues presented by the psychiatric manifestations of HIV infection over the course of the illness. Psychosocial issues related to the infection period & to the patient’s HIV-positive asymptomatic status are described. A discussion of disease progression & treatment focuses on the psychological stress of AIDS & AIDS-related complex, the expression of suicidal ideation by individuals diagnosed with AIDS & the impact of AIDS dementia on patients & caregivers.
