The authors present a program which uses stress management techniques to improve the situational coping skills of adult psychiatric patients. When discharged to the outpatient clinic, the patients in this program continue to learn & practice stress management techniques to increase relaxation & lessen anxiety. A case example is presented of a 32 year old woman who had been hospitalized because of a suicide attempt. (18 refs.)
