To test the hypothesis that regional variation in suicide rates might be related to the differential distribution of medical resources, data from 1980 for the number of beds per capita & the number of physicians per capita in each of the 48 continental states were obtained from the Census Bureau & rates of suicide & homicide were obtained from the National Center for Health Statistics.
