Abstract
Self Poisoning: Could Psychiatric Management be Improved?
Vidalis A A~~Jungalwalla H N~~Baker G H B
Conducted a retrospective case note study of 93 (33 males, 60 females, aged 10-84 yrs) cases of deliberate self-poisoning. Results showed a higher incidence of functional psychoses than other studies, due to an excess of depressive psychosis in females. The main finding was that 84% of patients referred for treatment either failed to attend or failed to complete the treatment. It is suggested that outpatient treatment is inappropriate management for most overdose patients. (13 refs.)
