The authors of this letter are replying to criticism of their paper, “Suicide Trends in Canada & West Germany” (1989). In it, they state that “possession of firearms of any kind is illegal in West Germany”. The critic felt this was not true. In defense, the authors provide an excerpt of German legislation which demonstrates that firearm licenses & shooting licenses are very difficult to obtain. They also reply to other criticisms briefly. (VM)
