A retrospective review compares the development of Alberta’s suicide prevention training programs with Rothman’s model; discusses social research & development as a transformation methodology & draws conclusions about the probable success of using developmental research methods in the human services. It was found that the Alberta model closely paralled the phases of Rothman’s model & it is concluded that the use of development research methods should increase the probability of success.
