This brief article discusses conditions which may contribute to suicidal contagion, such as individual vulnerability, a high affective environment, identification with the suicide victim, & a perception of suicide as a solution to the observer’s problem. The authors give suggestions for decreasing contagion, for example, by portraying suicide in a calm, matter of fact manner, without romantic or heroic allusions. (VM)
