This article discusses the relation between unemployment, parasuicide & completed suicide. The author focuses on the findings of S. Platt. The author asserts that the unemployed are overrepresented among both those who non-fatally & fatally injure themselves. Most longitudinal studies show more unemployment & job instability among those who kill or injure themselves, & all aggregate studies from the U.S. show that unemployment & suicide rates have changed together.
