In a brief letter to the editor, the authors argue that there are factors other than suttee that better explain suicide by burning. Among these factors are the ubiquitous presence of kerosene in the Indian home & the psychological attachment that Indian emigrants have to India which tends to maintain ideas regarding suicide by burning.
