Examined relationships among suicide rates, alcohol consumption & other alcohol-related problems in Ontario for the period 1963-1983. Suicide rates & other alcohol-related problems were strongly correlated with per capita consumption. However, during a period of stabilization in consumption (1975-1983), correlations were markedly reduced & substantial differences in trends for males & females were observed. The contribution of other factors to these diverging trends is discussed. (33 refs.)
