This article summarizes research that has contributed to the assessment, treatment & prevention of adolescent suicide. The epidemilogy of completed & attempted suicide for U.S. adolescents 15-24 is outlined, as are risk factors & various studies on the effect of preventive techniques such as crisis centres & education programs. The authors conclude targeting high risk groups, like young men with affective disorders, substance abuse, family conflict or conduct disturbance, is the best strategy.
