Discusses the role of the school counselor (SCC) in confronting the issue of suicide among children. SCCs are in a position to be involved in the identification, prevention, intervention & postvention of suicidal behavior. SCCs may notice cues such as significant losses in the child’s life or other behavioral disturbances. Issues that affect suicidal behavior & the initial acute stage of intervention are discussed. SCCs need to provide opportunities to debrief themselves about the crisis.
