Suicide among gifted adolescents is discussed & precipitating events are described. These students often exhibit symptoms which indicate a need for counselling. Problems frequently encountered include perfectionism, disappointments, insecurities, career identity & depression. Educators need to be aware that gifted adolescents are as much at risk as non-gifted teens. Strategies for counselling the potentially suicidal gifted adolescent & for dealing with suicide bereavement are presented.
