Describes the clinical process of school-based postvention, which provides assistance to the survivors of a suicide. The development of a postvention group involving 6 14-18 yr old friends of a 16 yr old student who had committed suicide is described. The fear of contagion in initiating discussions of suicide is addressed. Adequate affective processing is described as the most significant aspect of postvention supporting healthy future responses by parasuicide & suicide survivors. (33 refs.)
