Administered the Stress Symptoms Score (S. Aro, 1981), the Burnout Index (BO) & the Suicidal Tendency Index to 2671 physicians in Finland. Stress symptoms in males were similar to those in male managers as reported by Aro & stress symptoms in females were less common than those in female white collar workers. Nonspecialists had higher BO scores than specialists. Suicidal intent was more common in Ss compared with the general population & was also more common in females versus males. (27 refs.)
