The present study surveyed 2850 Quebec adolescents, aged 12 to 18, in four secondary schools. 15.4 % of the young people stated that they have seriously thought about suicide, and 3.5 % of these have attempted suicide. Family problems rank first as events triggering thoughts about suicide. These adolescents live more often in one-parent families, report more health problems & show significant levels of depressed mood. Results obtained demonstrate need to introduce prevention in schools.
