A 5 year longitudinal study involving 20 HIV seropositive women screened by the US air force. All are educated, employed, and middle class. This group, although having reduced their sexual activity, continue to engage in unprotected sex and consider pregnancy. Only 2 had suicidal ideation although no attempts. An identical group of men were found to have suicidal ideation, depression, and alcohol/substance abuse. These results are in direct contrast to those found in the general public.
