This article reports on the course of depression over 1 week in 265 patients hospitalized following a suicide attempt. They were examined using a clinical interview, depression questionnaire, & 2 depression rating scales. On all measures the group had depression of moderate to marked severity at time of suicide attempt. In males & younger patients there was a statistically & clinically significant reduction in depression over 1 week. Possible contributing factors are discussed. (37 refs.)
