Socioeconomic Development, Suicide and Religion: a Test of Durkheim’s Theory of Religion and Suicide

Presents 3 case studies to support Durkheim’s view that religion has an independent role in suppressing suicide, by comparing Christianity with another religion, namely Islam. Then using a 71-nation cross-national analysis, shows that Islam does have an independent effect in lowering suicide. (KM)
