Between 33% & 50% of the 1,384 junior high & high school students surveyed in a semirural community reported such problems as feelings of being overweight, suicidal thoughts, depression, school failure, substance use, peer pressure & difficulties getting along with parents. Females, Ss in high school & Ss of lower socioeconomic status appeared to be at higher risk. Ss were generally unaware of existing professional helping agencies & were reluctant to seek help for a variety of reasons. 20 refs.
