Suicide Awareness Education in Schools: the Development of a Core Program and Subsequent Modifications for Special Populations or Institutions

Describes development of an adolescent suicide awareness program for school communities. The program’s goals are to disseminate information about the recognition & prevention of adolescent suicidal behavior to school community members & to develop & maintain effective communication & referral procedures between local education & mental health systems in a community. The program’s content & structure are described, & a procedure for implementation is detailed. Special populations are addressed.
