The outcomes of psychiatric consultation patients with suicidal ideation is infrequently discussed. 4 years of consultations were reviewed & 2 groups of suicidal subjects were identified: those admitted following suicide attempts & those with medical illnesses. These groups & nonsuicidal subjects were analyzed for lengths of stay, diagnoses & outcomes. Suicidal subjects were younger, had earlier consultations & shorter stays, had more affective & Axis II disorders. Nonsuicidal subjects had more adjustment disorders.
