The purpose of this article is to present an historical overview of suicide in childhood & adolescence. Current legal, etiological & treatment issues related to the act of self destruction, as well as data from British Columbia & Canada reflect the growing concerns about young lives lost unnecessarily. The role of the teacher in prevention and postvention is emphasized.
