The author explores sociological (Durkheim) & psychogical (Freud) definitions of suicide. He maintains that one needs to combine both definitions, i.e. to know the thoughts & feelins of an individual & how he integrates with his fellow men, in order to understand suicide. He discusses the 3 different types of Western suicidal logic. A classification of suicide behaviors of 3 types is proposed: egoitic, dyadic, & ageneratic. Examples of suicide notes of each type are presented.
