The Crisis Intervention Unit at Toronto East General Hospital’s Psychiatry Dept developed a home visit programme for psychiatric patients with suicidal tendencies. Trained volunteers contact patients through the emergency dept. They maintain home visits until the crisis is passed or until the patient can handle the problem or be cared for by the appropriate agency. 2 important variables considered for this project are the risk of suicide & depression; these are measured before & after treatment.
