This article presents 2 conceptual frameworks for understanding the effects of childhood sexual exploitation (CSE): the traumagenic dynamics model (Finkelhor & Browne 1986) & the model of information processing (Burgess et al 1987). Various research studies of the long-term effects of the problem are reviewed & summarized. Results of these studies show that survivors of CSE experience a variety of long-term effects including suicidal attempts. Implications for nursing & research are suggested.
