Assessed the reactions of 85 undergraduates to the suicidal & viral illness deaths (VIDS) of 10-, 18-, 30- and 65 yr old individuals. Ss completed a modified version of the Youth Suicide Scale. Reactions to suicide were more negative than reactions to VIDS. Ss saw the suicide completer & family as disturbed & the family as sad, blameworthy, unlikeable & in need of professional help. Ss also believed that the family should have predicted the incident. Age of the victims made less difference.
