Contends that failures in establishing therapeutic linkages & alliances with adolescents at risk for suicidal behavior highlight problems in the interaction between the suicidal adolescent (SAD), his/her interpersonal world & the helping community. Characteristics of the SAD include conduct disordered behavior, depression & psychosis. Substance abuse is a frequently noted co-morbid behavior. 3 case examples are provided & 7 practical suggestions are offered for therapists who treat SADs.
