This study tested the ability of counselors at telephone counseling centers to “listen actively” (reflection). This is the ability to give reflective responses, and is important because it encourages people to talk and clarifies communication. Counselors were evaluated before and after the Contact Dallas training program using the Carkhuff Empathy Scale. Significant improvement was found after taking the training program. Vital skills besides reflection were not studied, however.
