This article discusses the development of a positive self-concept in adolescents. The author asserts that this is more difficult for males because of the qualities valued in men, such as minimal expression of emotion, aggressiveness, independence & dominance. This study found that adolescent males with a high self-concept reported fewer suicidal thoughts than those with a low self-concept. (VM)
